Girl Work Your Mind Not Twerk Your Behind

Recently, women have been frequently engaged in the betterment of the world. Whether political or social, the future of women empowerment is full of endless potential. However, women need to step up to the plate and get a good education in order to contribute to their success. The most influential women had to work hard to get where they are and weren’t distracted by unflattering labels.

You get people to listen to what you have to say by speaking and presenting yourself intelligently.

When it comes to being successful, sometimes sacrifices must be made. For instance, studying instead of going to a college party is a decision that a responsible young woman would make. It is very important to make appropriate decisions to be successful. Not succumbing to peer pressure is another great way to stay focused. Your friends won’t always have the same goals as you which is why you should only worry about your self-growth. Also, getting involved in a club or sorority can help develop a young woman. It is encouraging to know people with the same interests as you and they often times are supportive of your efforts to succeed and in most cases have your back. You can help each other study for many academic pursuits and provide emotional support to one another.

It is also vital to recognize the value of the people you surround yourself with on a daily basis.  However, not knowing your self-worth is one of the the worst attributes a young aspiring lady can have. Don’t feel the need to use your body as a means of attention. You get people to listen to what you have to say by speaking and presenting yourself intelligently. Hence the phrase, “Girl Work Your Mind Not Twerk Your Behind.”

As many women before us have worked hard to gain respect and are recognized for their intellectual and professional skills, I highly encourage you to obtain your extra recognition from your intellectual progression.

I decided to use twerking specifically because of the definition and the context of the phrase. Twerking means moving your butt up and down quickly, just to get attention. As many women before us have worked hard to gain respect and are recognized for their intellectual and professional skills, I highly encourage you to obtain your extra recognition from your intellectual progression. This is especially evident in the recent surge of women elected into office from the 2018 midterm elections. Many of these women are STEM professionals.  They are amazing role models that have excelled in their intellectual and professional pursuits.  These women are a huge part of the success of female empowerment.  I admire their strength and courage to pursue their aspirations using their minds and collaborative networks to achieve their goals. I am also inspired by many people but Michelle Obama is at the top of my list. Due to her strong academic structure, she was able to accomplish many things for the community. She was able to make smart decisions as the former First Lady such as the Let’s Move campaign. So, there are many positive role models that you can look up to instead of booty shakers often seen in music videos or movies. Don’t let anyone disrespect you and belittle your character.  You have the power within you to become an intellectual powerhouse capable of crushing glass ceilings and so much more.
