My first prom of the year was a success! Everything came together just the way I wanted it to and I had the time of my life. At first, I was going to skip out on GSA prom but I am so glad I didn’t. The theme for this year’s GSA prom was And The Award Goes To. Now, this is not really a very convential theme for a high school dance but I thought “Hey, might as well get creative and go all out.” I wanted to go for a red carpet look that’s simple, elegant, and a little “Hollywood glamour”; this would be my interpretation of Hollywood glamour of course. And I knew since I wanted a simple bodice for my dress, I needed to find the right accessories that would tie my look together seamlessly. I had to go with a red gown because it’s a popular red carpet color and red goes very well with my skin tone. Since red is already a big statement color, I didn’t want to overwhelm the gown so I went through many jewelry options to find the perfect balance. In the end, I had to go with my signature hoops to give an elegant appeal and then a sparkly bracelet and necklace for extra pizzaz. I tried to find some bright shoes to go with my simple elegant look which was difficult but totally worth finding. The shoes I found helped tie back attention to the original color scheme and gave my feet a little bit of spice. However, this is not the finished product.
With any look, hair and makeup is just as important as the outfit. I knew I wanted an up do to show off my shoulders and my neck, I just needed to find a hairstyle that perfectly complimented the look. After long deliberation, I found that a long curly ponytail gave a dramatic effect and cascaded the dress in the right places. As far as my makeup, I always go for a more natural look because I believe that makeup should only enhance our natural beauty. I just added a bit more glam with extra contour and highlighter and lipstick. After everything was put together I felt like a real life movie star. I think I nailed the theme this year!
My overall experience at GSA Prom was a blast. From the cute little chocolate fountain at the hors d’oeuvre table to the red carpet photo booth. I had so much fun with my friends on the dance floor and taking lots of pictures. My favorite part by far was witnessing the department walks. Each department was so creative in their approach to the walk and it was so exciting to see. After much photo bombing and line dancing, it was finally time to go home. It went by so fast and I didn’t want the fun to end. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year’s GSA prom! My ring dance is coming up in a few days and I have no doubt it will be just as special.
